Frances Hardinge spent her childhood in a huge old house that inspired her to write strange stories from an early age. She read English at Oxford University, and was bullied by a persistent friend into letting a publisher read the first chapters of Fly by Night, an astonishing literary debut and work of the imagination that went on to win the prestigious Branford Boase Award. She continues to publish to fantastic reviews. Frances now lives part-time in Oxford and part-time in London with her boyfriend.
A triumph of imagination and wordplay. An adventure as fierce and fiery as the volcanoes that rule it . . . and the girl that rules them! Now in paperback - launching a stunning new cover look!
