Sita Brahmachari nominated for Berkshire Award
Artichoke Hearts by Sita Brahmachari has been shortlisted for The Berkshire Book Award 2012.
The Berkshire Book Award was launched in 2004 and has been tremendously successful and popular with young people aged 11-14 who live or go to school in Berkshire. This year, 19 schools have sent in over 460 entries, nominating 154 books for the Award, which recognises the best new book aimed at this age group. The Award is unique in the county and differs from other Award schemes through its involvement of young readers in both nominating the titles and selecting the winner. Previous winners have included J.K. Rowling, Derek Landy and Anthony Horowitz.
The 2012 Award was launched on October 13th by the author Mary Hooper. Since then young people all over Berkshire have been seeking out the latest “good reads” in order to nominate them for this year’s Award. Participating bookshops and libraries in the county have been waiting for the shortlist and are keen to be involved in the excitement. Waterstones shops throughout Berkshire will be publicising the Award.
The shortlisted titles will be read and reviewed by young people all over the county between now and the end of February 2012. The Award Website (
www.berkshirebookaward.org.uk) gives comprehensive information about the Award and will enable young people to swap reviews online. Discussion groups and events will be taking place in schools across Berkshire over the next three months and there will be the Berkshire-wide Pen2Page event on February 7th 2012 at St Crispin’s School, Wokingham.
Voting takes place week commencing 5th March 2012 and the winner will be announced on 19th March 2012.
