‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’.

Well wouldn’t we all like to think that? But our daily lives seem to get more and more stressed by the old work ethic. What I really like about this book is that I recognise aspects of the way I, and many of my friends live our lives. And I recognise too that it deals with the gripes that we share about how our lives are ruled by our work.

Pat Kane has written a deeply serious, but readable book about the fact that we must build play into our lives otherwise our productivity, both emotional and economical is effected. It’s a book that you can skim for ideas, read in depth or skip to the topic that interests. One of the notable things in the book is the realisation that more people working as freelancers are living the Play Ethic. You can be a freelance hairdresser and bricklayer at the same time, maximise your money and your time doing things that really interest you.

So what this book really does is open up new vistas for a way to live happily and successfully. Can’t be bad.
