Pan Macmillan’s crime fiction was honoured at the ITV3 Specsaver’s Crime Thriller Awards 2011.
Tom Franklin’s
Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter was awarded the 2011 CWA Gold Dagger and the prize of £2,500. The announcement was made at the awards on 7th October 2011.
Tom Franklin said “What an amazing long list! What an amazing short list! I’m truly happy just for the company, and everything else is gravy. All my thanks.”
The judges called his winning novel, “A poignant suspense novel drenched in the languid atmosphere of small-town Mississippi where police investigate the murder of a local teenage girl.”
Peter James picked up The People’s Choice award – the ITV3 People’s Bestseller Dagger.
David Baldacci and Peter James were also inducted into the Crime Thriller Awards Hall of Fame.
The Killing (Forbrydelsen) swept the board with three Crime Thriller Awards, Best International Crime Drama, Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress. Pan Macmillan acquired the novelisations to the Danish TV series, shown on BBC4 in the UK in spring 2011, earlier this year. Pan Macmillan will publish the hardback novelisation of Series One of The Killing in May 2012. Crime writer David Hewson will novelise the Bafta-winning series. The Killing II comes to our screens on BBC4 on 19 November 2011.
Peter James, Chair of the Crime Writers’ Association and People’s Choice award-winner, commented:
“Judging an award is not only subjective it is a daunting, and very onerous task. It was especially so this year as the quality of the entries for all the Daggers was quite exceptionally high, and every single one of those on the shortlists would have made a worthy winner. But those selected by the judges had, in their view, just that extra spark that lifted them above their competitors, and the writers are all quite exceptionally talented, raising our beloved genre to new heights of quality in the literary world.”
