Inspiration for your next story or poem can come from the most unlikely places. Here’s my son’s spelling test words for the week. When I look at this list, I could chose to see the repeated conversations ahead with him, where he sulks about having to study. Or I could instead see words that could be rearranged and added to, to make something new. Likely, I’ll deal with the arguments about getting him to practice. But hopefully YOU get the chance to use this to get you writing. Either use the words themselves, or the memory of a test you’ve had to sit in the past. Or make your character study for something… happy writing! #writing #writingprompt #500words #creativity

“Yet I am in love with words.
They are doves falling out of the ceiling.
They are six holy oranges sitting in my lap.
They are the trees, the legs of summer,
and the sun, its passionate face. Yet often they fail me.
I have so much I want to say,
so many stories, images, proverbs, etc.
But the words aren’t good enough,
the wrong ones kiss me.
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
but with the wings of a wren. But I try to take care
and be gentle to them.
Words and eggs must be handled with care.
Once broken they are impossible
things to repair.” - Anne Sexton, “Words” (via m-l-rio)

Taylor Swift’s testimony is ‘badass.’ It also explains why many sexual abuse survivors stay silent Testifying at trial that radio DJ David Mueller groped her in 2013 — reaching up under her skirt and grabbing “a handful of [her] ass” while she posed for a photo with him — Taylor Swift delivered what many outlets have called “brave” and “badass” responses to a set of questions seemingly designed to shame and discredit her.“I’m not going to let you or your client make me feel like this was my fault, because it isn’t,” she said, according to the New York Times, adding, “I’m being blamed for the unfortunate events of his life that are a product of his decisions. Not mine.” It makes sense that Swift is now being hailed as a hero for her testimony on Thursday: her answers were excellent. A less talked about — yet just as laudable — aspect of her testimony, though, came when Swift said she wasn’t surprised to hear Mueller call her cold after the fact. Read more (8/11/17)
Sometimes there really, really isn’t time to write.... - 2 months ago
Sometimes there really, really isn’t time to write. Sometimes it’s summer vacation and, although we went no further than the river park here in #yxe , we’re enjoying family time. Most of the time we’re enjoying it, anyway! If any of you feel like writing, consider an evening like we’re having–try and do something that a tourist would do near where you live. We’re completely enjoying our Staycation tonight–and it also gives us a different perspective on a place we know well–always good for a writer to look at the same thing differently. #writingprompt #creativity #newperspectives #lifewithkids #summer

Take some time today to look out the window–even better, step outside. Write your observations down. I use notes like these when I’m writing my books–it’s always useful to flex that writing muscle… #books #500words #writingprompt #creativity #amwriting
