To celebrate the Picador Classic list we set the UK’s independent bookshops a challenge: create the most beautiful and original window display for the books you can.

There were 29 brilliant entries, and our Sales team had a difficult time of it when it came to choosing a winner.

In first place: Bookish in Crickhowell, Wales. Our judges especially liked the use they made of props and items from the last 40 years.

Bookseller Emma said: ‘We're thrilled to have won the Picador Classics window competition, with huge thanks to the wonderfully creative Rachel Cadman, who works here at Bookish, and friends and customers who donated 70s themed items. We'll be putting the [prize] money towards our book bus project which will be launching in late Spring. This couldn't have come at a better time for us. Thank you Picador!’

In second place: The Corsham Bookshop in Wiltshire.

We love the way they pulled out an object for each book:

And finally, the highly commended Storytellers Inc of Lytham.
