Gemma Merino has won the Oscar's Book Prize with The Cow Who Climbed a Tree
and was presented with her award by HRH Princess Beatrice of York, one of this year’s judges.
Oscar's Book Prize was set up in memory of Oscar Ashton, son of Evening Standard columnist James Ashton, who died at the age of three from an undetected heart condition. The award, now in its third year, pays tribute to Oscar's love of stories.

Gemma Merino’s first picture book The Crocodile Who Didn’t Like Water
won the Macmillan Prize for Illustration in 2011, was shortlisted Waterstone's Children’s Book Prize 2014, won the Coventry Inspiration Book Awards and the Bishop Stortford Picture Book Awards, was longlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and was shortlisted for the UK’s Literacy Association’s Awards in 2015. It is published in 17 languages around the world.
The board book of The Crocodile Who Didn’t Like Water
publishes 11 August 2016, and her next picture book is The Sheep Who Hatched an Egg
which will publish in March 2017.
