Bluebird is proud to announce that we will be publishing the first cookery book for 25 years from national treasure and The Great British Bake Off judge, Prue Leith. The as yet untitled first book will be a lead title for Bluebird and will publish in September 2018. Prue’s The Joy of Baking will then be published in Autumn 2019.

Carole Tonkinson, Publisher of Bluebird, acquired world rights (all languages) following a hotly contested seven-way auction with agent Jane Turnbull.

Currently appearing in her first series as a judge on The Great British Bake Off, for nearly sixty years Prue Leith has been at the top of the British food scene. She has seen huge success not only as founder of the renowned Leith’s School of Food and Wine, but also as a caterer, restaurateur, teacher, TV cook, food journalist, novelist, and cookery book author. She’s also been a leading figure in campaigns to improve food in schools, hospitals and in the home and is well known as a judge on The Great British Menu.

The as yet untitled book from Prue will draw on her life-long passion for cooking and eating. Full of  delicious, comforting dishes to be turned to time and again, the book will be full of Prue’s signature recipes that she has cooked countless times for family and friends – from firmly established favourites to exciting new flavour combinations and fresh takes on classic dishes. The book includes lazy leftovers, quick-to-whip-up suppers and even dinner party show-stoppers. Many of the recipes will have personal stories from Prue’s life woven around them, all told in her trademark intimate and witty style.

A second helping of Prue will follow in 2019 with The Joy of Baking, co-authored by her niece, Peta Leith, a master baker and pastry chef at one of London’s most iconic restaurants, The Ivy. Together, they will combine their unbeatable skills, passion and experience to show the home-cook how to make truly spectacular cakes and surprisingly simple bakes. Mixing Peta's baking flair and passion for a challenge with Prue’s assurance and voice of experience, both Leiths will serve up alternative approaches to brilliant bakes. Through their different yet complementary styles, they’ll demonstrate that there is often more than one way to arrive at a really great result – whether by intricate restaurant-standard baking or clever homely shortcuts.

Following the astoundingly warm reception for Prue and her role on The Great British Bake Off, both books will give an unparalleled view into the cooking life and style of one of the nation’s best-loved cooks.

Prue Leith says: ‘25 years ago I gave up cookery writing to write novels. Though I've never stopped buying cookbooks and I'm as greedy as ever, I thought I'd never write another. But I have probably baked and cooked more in the last year than ever before. So I can't resist. The recipes in this book are for the most delicious things I've encountered in fifty years of working in the food world and the best dishes I've cooked at home. Just a collection of great food, most of it genuinely easy to achieve. For me, perfection means it smells wonderful, looks wonderful, tastes wonderful and feels like heaven in the mouth.’

Jane Turnbull says: ‘Carole Tonkinson and her exceptional team at Bluebird pulled out all the stops to woo Prue and I know that she has found a very happy home for her cookery publishing. The Leiths cookery 'bibles' are prescriptive, brilliant teaching manuals that emerged from Leith's School of Food and Wine. Prue has never published her own domestic recipes previously so this is going to be a tremendous publishing event and I'm sure Bluebird will make Prue a giant bestseller.’

Carole Tonkinson says: ‘There is no cookery writer I’d rather bring to the Bluebird list. Signing Prue is hugely exciting. We are thrilled to be bringing out these treasure troves of fantastic recipes—the kind of food we all want to make at home—for her long-established following and the new swathe of Bake Off fans.’
