The Gate Crashers by The New Yorker's Andrew Marant to be published by Pan Macmillan

31 May 2017

Pan Macmillan is thrilled to announce the arrival of a major new talent to the Non-Fiction List.

Andrew Marantz is a rising star at The New Yorker, and has been tracking the rise of the alt-right for longer than anyone else at the magazine. In The Gate Crashers, Marantz will undertake an ambitious account of the global phenomena that have changed not just the course of American history, but our day-to-day relationship with media and technology.

The Gate Crashers will be an immersive reported chronicle of the rise of the new reactionary media insurrection, starting with a genealogy of right-wing American nationalism, then tracing the history of the movement from its intellectual roots to its current apotheosis, as previously marginal bloggers receive press passes to the Trump White House, party at the DeploraBall, and assume unprecedented status as the new insiders and power brokers across the globe.

Non-fiction Publisher Robin Harvie says:
“We are hugely proud to be welcoming Andrew to the Macmillan list. He is a major new talent, and I choose my words carefully in describing him as his generation's answer to Michael Lewis and Lawrence Wright. His ambition to shine a light into the dark corners of the American landscape that is helping to completely reshape the world we live in is both, as a reader, electrifying to consider, and, as a human-being, terrifying to behold.”

UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired from WME on behalf of Tina Bennett. Tracy Fisher is handling translation rights. The Gate Crashers will be published in 2019.
