Picador are thrilled to share that This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay has been awarded the Books Are My Bag Readers Awards "Readers’ Choice" and Non-Fiction awards for 2017.

Scribbled in secret after endless days, sleepless nights and missed weekends, comedian and former junior doctor Adam Kay’s This Is Going to Hurt is a no-holds-barred account of his time on the NHS front line. Hilarious, horrifying and heartbreaking by turns, these diaries lift the vein on life for junior-doctors, both on and off the hospital ward. Adam Kay's next book, titled 100 Patients Who Changed My Life, will be published by Picador in August 2019.

Run by the Booksellers Association and sponsored by National Book Tokens, the Books are My Bag Readers Awards are now in their second year. The shortlists are curated by booksellers and voted for by the book-loving public with the exception of the Readers’ Choice Award which is voted for by the public without an initial shortlist.
