From the archive: the Romanian Securitate's files on Carmen's family
These are some of the 1,500 documents on Carmen's family that are held in the Securitate (the Romanian secret police) archives. They are published with the permission of her family and appear in the appendix of Burying the Typewriter.

The typewriter is unearthed from its burial place in the white container by the Securitate. The notes observe that it is "an 'Erika' model ... made in the Democratic Republic of Germany (East Germany)."
