Ondaatje Prize shortlist drawn

The Music Room by William Fiennes has made the shortlist for the Royal Society of Literature's Ondaatje Prize 2010. The £10,000 prize is awarded annually to a book of "the highest literary merit best evoking the spirit of place".

The winner will be announced at a celebratory dinner at The Travellers Club on 24th May.

The shortlist in full comprises:

Madeleine Bunting The Plot (Granta)

William Fiennes The Music Room (Picador)

Daniyal Mueenuddin In Other Rooms, Other Wonders (Bloomsbury)

Kachi A Ozumba The Shadow of a Smile (Alma Books)

Iain Sinclair Hackney, That Rose-Red Empire (Hamish Hamilton)

Ian Thomson The Dead Yard: Tales of Modern Jamaica (Faber)
