The Shore to Shore Poetry Competition

23 May 2016

We are delighted to to be running a poetry competition celebrating poetry and community alongside the Poet Laureate and friends' Shore to Shore tour.

To showcase and encourage poetry across the UK, we will be running the competition in each visiting area, looking for budding poets to share their poems on community with us.

The competition opens on 23 May 2016 and all you have to do is write a single poem about community.

Your poem must be submitted by email to [email protected] before Monday 4 July 2016 with the title ‘Poetry Competition’ in the subject line.

Please include your full name and the name of your nearest Shore to Shore event or your postal address. You have to be a UK resident and over eighteen to enter the competition.

The Picador Poetry team will pick a shortlist and Poetry Editor and award-winning poet Don Paterson will select one winner from each visiting location, totalling in fifteen winners.

The winners will be announced on www.carolannduffyandfriends.com and in our Friday Poem newsletter, along with their winning poem, on 23 September 2016. Please note that the announcement will now take place two weeks later than originally planned.

The winners will also receive a copy of Off The Shelf: A Celebration of Bookshops in Verse, a brand new anthology published by Picador to coincide with the Shore to Shore tour as well as the Collected Poems of Carol Ann Duffy, Clive James, Michael Donaghy and Sean O’Brien. Full terms and conditions are below.

Best of luck!
