This month we saw the paperback edition of Peter F. Hamilton's brilliant Great North Road published. Here you can read an extract from Great North Road .

A standalone novel with all of Peter's usual pace, action, great characterization and storytelling, the book received fantastic praise when we first published the hardback last year:

‘The author controls a cast numbering more than fifty, multiple complex plot lines, speculation on the science of wormhole technology and cloning, and arrives at a dénouement that is far more than just the resolution of a murder mystery’ Guardian

‘We’ve said it before, but few SF writers handle BIG books with Hamilton’s aplomb’ SFX

‘Complex world-building, harrowing back-story and good payoffs’ Daily Telegraph

‘Hamilton has once again shown why he is one of the best writers in the field today . . . if you want a stand-alone sci-fi novel to get lost in, you can’t go wrong with Great North RoadWalker of Worlds

When attending a Newcastle murder scene, Detective Sidney Hurst finds a dead North family clone. Yet none have been reported missing. And in 2122, twenty years ago, a North clone billionaire was horrifically murdered in the same manner on the tropical planet of St Libra. So, if the murderer is still at large, was Angela Tramelo wrongly convicted? She never wavered under interrogation, claiming she alone survived an alien attack.

Investigating this potential alien threat now becomes the Human Defence Agency’s top priority. St Libran bio-fuel is the lifeblood of Earth’s economy and must be secured. A vast expedition is mounted via the Newcastle gateway, and experts are dispatched to the planet – with Angela Tramelo, grudgingly released from prison. But the expedition is cut off deep within St Libra’s rainforests, and the murders begin. Angela insists it’s the alien, but her new colleagues aren’t sure. Did she see an alien, or does she have other reasons for being on St Libra?

To celebrate the paperback we have a great prize for one lucky reader, a slipcase edition of Great North Road. Just head over to our Facebook page to check out the competition.
