There Is a Tribe of Kids Competition

06 May 2016

By Two Hoots

To mark the launch of There Is a Tribe of Kids by Lane Smith we are running an exceedingly special competition for you to win a shelf of Lane Smith treats, including a signed copy of There Is a Tribe of Kids and a limited edition signed Lane Smith print. Just send us your idea for a collective noun by tweeting us @TwoHootsBooks using the hashtag #jointhetribe or leave a comment on this blog.

There Is a Tribe of Kids is a witty and playful exploration of curiosity and what it means to belong, in which a small child explores the wide wild world, meeting a whole menagerie of animals along the way – including an army of caterpillars, an unkindness of ravens, a crash of rhinos and ultimately, a tribe of kids.

Collective nouns like the ones Lane Smith has used have a rich and varied history – from the more familiar (a flock of birds, a swarm of bees) to the more bizarre (a shrivel of critics, an illusion of magicians, a prickle of hedgehogs). Whether totally made up or firmly established in the lexicon, collective nouns can be a joyful and poetic way of playing with language.

To celebrate collective nouns and Lane Smith’s beautiful new book, we’re giving you a chance to win some brilliant prizes by sending us your idea for a collective noun! It could be anything: a fluff of clouds, a scribble of authors or a cackle of hens. To enter either tweet us (including our name @TwoHootsBooks and the hashtag #jointhetribe) or leave a comment on this blog.

The winner will be chosen at random and will receive an incredible Lane Smith goody bag including:
A copy of There Is a Tribe of Kids signed by the author and illustrator, Lane Smith
A signed print of Lane Smith’s artwork from There Is a Tribe of Kids
A set of Lane Smith books

The competition opens at 12pm on Friday the 6th May and entries will close at 5pm on Monday the 9th May 2016. Full terms and conditions can be found here:
