Hughes explains which products are really worth the hype, which do the job and which ones are overblown. She looks at classics such as Chanel No 5, the oldies such as Johnson's Baby Lotion and the modern game-changers such as M A C's Ruby Woo. Hughes has more than 15 years' experience as one of the UK's leading beauty broadcasters and journalists and is also author of Pretty Honest. She has a large and loyal following as Guardian Weekend's beauty columnist and makes regular television and radio appearances including on BBC Radio 5 Live, Radio 4's Woman's Hour and Radio 2. She has experience as a makeup artist to George Michael, the Pet Shop Boys and Belinda Carlisle. Here she talks to television and Radio 1 presenter and journalist Gemma Cairney.

After a brief go at drama school and a stint working in fashion in her early twenties, Gemma Cairney is now a BBC broadcaster, magpie, and life enthusiast who has won awards for making documentaries on subjects such as young people in violent relationships. She presents The Surgery Show on BBC Radio 1 and co-produced and presented internet entertainment show, The Fox Problem. Gemma has presented shows and one offs for BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, 2, 3, 4, 4 Extra, 6Music and BBC World Service. She is also founder of boutique production company - Boom Shakalaka Productions. She likes to write, explore the planet, trek mountains and DJ garage classics.
