Birmingham’s own Natalie Haynes, writer, broadcaster and comedian, takes on Oedipus in her second novel, The Children of Jocasta. A new telling of an ancient story, with women to the fore, The Observer finds her work ‘vivid and affecting’. To introduce the book Natalie will present a humorous history of Ancient Greece which she is calling ‘Honour Among Thebes’. We love it already. “When you have grown up as I have, there is no security in not knowing things, in avoiding the ugliest truths because they can’t be faced”.

Natalie Haynes is a writer and broadcaster. She is the author of The Amber Fury, which was shortlisted for the Scottish Crime Book of the Year award, and a non-fiction book about Ancient History, The Ancient Guide to Modern Life. She has written and presented two series of the BBC Radio 4 show, Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics. In 2015, she was awarded the Classical Association Prize for her work in bringing Classics to a wider audience.
