Tomi Adeyemi in conversation with gal-dem editor Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff "
"Waterstones Piccadilly is delighted to welcome Tomi Adeyemi, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Children of Blood and Bone, for an inspirational evening in-conversation with writer, journalist & gal-dem editor Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff. "
"Children of Blood and Bone is an epic fantasy with an eye toward the reality of contemporary racial and socioeconomic power dynamics, drawing upon African history and mythology to tell a story of characters contending with colour, status and they want to be defined in a culture of fear. The highly original world it depicts filled with magic, mythical lionesque creatures and beautiful villages built out of sand manages to be at once fantastical and uncannily reflective of our reality today. "
"Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélies Reaper mother summoned forth souls. But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope. Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good. Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl, and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for an enemy. "
