About the book

From the author of The House at Riverton and The Secret Keeper, The Lake House has everything that readers have come to love about Kate Morton novels.

An abandoned house… After a particularly troubling case, Sadie Sparrow is sent on an enforced break from her job with the Metropolitan Police and retreats to her beloved grandfather’s cottage in Cornwall.  There she finds herself at a loose end, until one day she stumbles upon an abandoned house surrounded by overgrown gardens and dense woods, and learns the story of a baby boy who disappeared without a trace.

A missing child… June 1933, and the Edevane family’s country house, Loeanneth, is polished and gleaming, ready for the much-anticipated Midsummer Eve party.  For Eleanor, the annual party has always been one of her treasured traditions but her middle daughter, Alice, Sixteen years old and with literary ambitions, is especially excited.  Not only has Alice worked out the prefect twist for her novel, she’s also fallen helplessly in love with someone she shouldn’t.  But by the time midnight strikes and fireworks light up the night sky, the Edevane family will have suffered a loss so great they leave Loeanneth and never return.

An unsolved mystery… Seventy years later, in the attic writing room of her elegant Hampstead home, the formidable Alice Edevane leads a life as neatly plotted as the bestselling detective novels she writes.  Until a young police detective starts asking questions about her family’s past and seeking to resurrect the complete tangle of secrets Alice has spent her life trying to escape.

Summer's Shadow Competition

06 July 2016

By Pan Macmillan

When Summer’s mum dies, Summer’s life is turned upside down.

Her mother's will states that Summer's legal guardian is her uncle Tristan: a man Summer has never even heard of before. Forced to leave her life in London, Summer moves to Tristan's creepy, ancient house in Cornwall. There she is met with indifference from him, open hostility from her cousin, and an aunt who has chosen to leave rather than to tolerate her presence.

Soon Summer comes to believe that the house may be haunted. But is it haunted by ghosts, or by the shadows of her family's past?

Scared and lonely, Summer begins to spend more and more time in the beautiful sheltered cove she discovers nearby. But she's not alone. A local boy frequents it too. Can Summer find first love and the answers to the mysteries of her new home with this good-looking boy who appears to be too perfect to be true?

To win a copy of Summer's Shadow by Anna Wilson, answer the question below:

Where does Summer move to in Summer’s Shadow?

Win a trip to Paris, with The Paris Secret

22 July 2016

By Pan Macmillan

To celebrate the publication of Karen Swan's new summer blockbuster The Paris Secret, we are giving one lucky competition winner the chance to win a trip for two to Paris. The prize includes travel to Paris plus two nights accommodation.

Not every door should be opened...

With stunning locations and page-turning tension, The Paris Secret is an intense and gripping tale from bestselling author Karen Swan.

Somewhere along the cobbled streets of Paris, an apartment lies thick with dust and secrets: full of priceless artworks hidden away for decades.

High-flying fine art agent Flora from London, more comfortable with the tension of a million-pound auction than a cosy candlelit dinner for two, is called in to assess these suddenly discovered treasures. As an expert in her field, she must trace the history of each painting and discover who has concealed them for so long.

Thrown in amongst the glamorous Vermeil family as they move between Paris and Antibes, Flora begins to discover that things aren't all that they seem, while back at home her own family is recoiling from a seismic shock. The terse and brooding Xavier Vermeil seems intent on forcing Flora out of his family's affairs – but just what is he hiding?

The prize consists of the following:
Two return flights to Paris or two tickets on the Eurostar (depending on the location of the winner) and two nights accommodation in Paris

For a chance to win, please answer the question below. All entries must be received by 23:59 on Thursday 22 September 2016. Please read the full terms and conditions below.

What is Flora's career in the book?

About the books included in the bundle:

Cold Earth by Ann Cleeves - The seventh book in Ann Cleeves' Shetland series
In the dark days of a Shetland winter, torrential rain triggers a landslide that crosses the main Lerwick-Sumburgh road and sweeps down to the sea. At the burial of his old friend Magnus Tait, Jimmy Perez watches the flood of mud and peaty water smash through a croft house in its path. Everyone thinks the croft is uninhabited, but in the wreckage he finds the body of a dark-haired woman wearing a red silk dress. In his mind, she shares his Mediterranean ancestry and soon he becomes obsessed with tracing her identity. Then it emerges that she was already dead before the landslide hit the house. Perez knows he must find out who she was, and how she died.

City of Strangers by Louise Millar -  A gripping story of deception, lies in corrupstion set in Edinburgh
Grace Scott returns from honeymoon with her new husband, Mac, to find a man lying dead in their new Edinburgh flat. They don't know who he is or where he's come from. The mystery of his identity remains unsolved. Then, three months later, Grace finds a note tucked inside one of the wedding gifts which sends her on a journey to discover what really happened in her flat. A journey that becomes more dangerous the closer she comes to the truth... What she discovers will change her life.

Rebound by Aga Lesiewicz - a dark and gripping debut psychological thriller

She adores her dog, Wispa, and she loves to run to help her de-stress. But Anna's perfect life starts to crumble from the moment when, out jogging on the Heath one day, she meets a handsome stranger. She takes a route into unfamiliar territory, and then she has to face the consequences.

Gone Astray by Michelle Davies
Lesley and her husband Mack are the sudden winners of a £15 million EuroMillions jackpot. They move with their 15-year-old daughter Rosie to an exclusive gated estate in Buckinghamshire, leaving behind their ordinary lives - and friends - as they are catapulted into wealth beyond their wildest dreams. But it soon turns into their darkest nightmare when, one beautiful spring afternoon, Lesley returns to their house to find it empty: their daughter Rosie is gone...

Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll - an audacious, page-turning debut thriller
Ani FaNelli is the woman who has it all: the glamorous job, the designer wardrobe, the handsome and rich fiancé. But behind her sharp edges and meticulously crafted facade lies the darkest of pasts. When a documentary producer invites Ani to tell her side of the chilling and violent incident that took place when she was a teenager at the prestigious Bradley school, she hopes it will be an opportunity to prove how far she's turned her life around since then. But as the wedding and filming converge, Ani's past threatens to come back and haunt her...

Win a Marine Biologist Experience for a day with SEA LIFE

08 September 2016

By Macmillan Children's Books

Enter to win the chance to have an amazing Marine Biologist experience, in partnership with SEA LIFE.

To celebrate the new paperback edition of The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin, SEA LIFE are offering you the chance to meet a jellyfish in real life by winning a once in a lifetime Marine Biologist Experience, inspired by this wonderful story.

This prize will inspire Marine Biologists of the future! The winner will team up with our expert aquarist guides to go deep behind the scenes and discover how SEA LIFE cares for our marine and fresh-water species.

There’s a lot going on beneath the surface at SEA LIFE. You’ll have privileged access to our behind the scenes working areas where you can learn about such things as our breeding, research and conservation programmes and see how the fish food is prepared! Expect an action packed day where you will help in everything from feeding the animals to executing your own water tests!

SEA LIFE will teach you: Jellyfish have no nerves, no blood, no heart and no brain, but they can detect the touch of other animals through a nerve-net spread throughout their bell and their bodies consist of 95% water!

Suzy is twelve when her best friend, Franny, drowns one summer at the beach. It takes two days for the news to reach Suzy, and it's not something that she can accept: Franny has always been a strong swimmer, from the day they met in swim class when they were just five. How can someone all of a sudden, just no longer be there?

Suzy realizes that they must have got it wrong: Franny didn't just drown - she was stung by a poisonous jellyfish. This makes a lot more sense to Suzy's logical mind than a random drowning - cause: a jellyfish sting; effect: death.

Suzy's journey to acceptance is quiet - she resolves to either say something important, or say nothing at all. But it's also bursting with bittersweet humour, heartbreaking honesty, big ideas and small details.

To be in with a chance of winning answer the following question:
