Swann In Love

Marcel Proust is one of France’s greatest classic authors. His expansive novel, In Search of Lost Time, is well-known for its exploration of memory and emotion. Swann in Love is a novella and a pivotal part of In Search of Lost Time’s first volume.

Published in French in 1913, this novella is a rewarding springboard into Proust’s seven-volume work as a whole, since it focuses on two key characters. Swann in Love tells of Charles Swann’s obsession with a courtesan, Odette de Crécy, who he meets at a Parisian salon. Wavering between love and jealousy, disdain and affection, Swann finds himself more and more entangled with the beautiful yet unfaithful Odette.
