This weekend sees the return of FantasyCon. If you are attending for the first time, here is a handy guide of what to do, what to see and what to expect.

What is FantasyCon?
Fantasy Con is an annual convention run by The British Fantasy Society.

Where is it?
This year it is taking place at The Royal York Hotel.

What can I expect?
Panels, parties and The British Fantasy Awards banquet! Guests of Honour this year include Kate Elliott, Charlaine Harris, Toby Whithouse and Larry Rostant. The UK Tor team will be out in force, and all convention members can join us at our book launch on Friday 5th September from 4pm-4.45pm. Check out the invitation below.

The full programme of panels is live now. Highlights include is a FantasyCon edition of the popular TV show Pointless, hosted by Paul Cornell as well as a Friday night Karaoke session!

The British Fantasy Awards banquet will take place on Sunday 7th September at 1pm, and the winners of the categories will be announced . We’ve got our fingers crossed for Adam Nevill, who has been shortlisted for the Best Horror Novel for House of Small Shadows. You can see the shortlist here.

Top tips for FantasyCon 2014
We asked our twitter followers to share their top tips for Fantasy Con first timers. Here are our favourites:
@ThePerkyPeacock is the best coffee shop in the city and it's just down the road

Bring your dancing shoes for the legendary Saturday night disco.

You'll need only half of what you've packed, and double the money.

Bring lots of water and your own bag for swag/purchases

There is a quite exceptional pub that's between the station and the hotel @yorktap. It does get crowded though.

And there we have it! See you at The York Tap, wearing dancing shoes, with a half empty suitcase.
