From doing an artist study on her during my A-Levels to now having the privilege to have her photography on one of my designs! Very full circle!

Bella Jones, Senior Designer, said: 'I am beyond delighted to have won the Young Adult Academy of British Cover Design award for the second year running, but this time for my new home and team at Pan Macmillan. I’m grateful to have been shortlisted alongside some incredible talent.

'This is one of my favourite cover designs. I was really inspired by the title and poems chosen by Charlie Castelletti; a lot of the beautiful words are about feeling overwhelmed emotionally, so I used this as my starting point and imagined the letters bursting and almost exploding with emotions. Álex López AKA Muokkaa is the brilliant typographer who brought my vision to life. To make sure the cover looked as beautiful when printed as it does online, I painstakingly hand drew on the Purple and Orange Pantones to create a bright and vibrant cover.'

Daisy Bates, Assistant Designer, said: 'I was so over the moon at winning an ABCD for my design for Thirst Trap for the Literary Fiction category. Literary Fiction is quite a competitive category, so even being shortlisted amongst the other talented designers felt like a win in itself!

'For this cover I was lucky to be able to use the artwork/photography by Vanessa Mckeown on my design. Vanessa is a photographer I have admired for nearly a decade. From doing an artist study on her during my A-Levels to now having the privilege to have her photography on one of my designs! Very full circle!'

Art Director Rachel Vale said: 'I feel incredibly proud to work alongside our Art & Design team, they are such a hugely talented group of people who are thoughtful, generous with their ideas, and endlessly creative. Every cover we publish is the result of a huge amount of care, collaboration and craft.'
