Pan Macmillan launches employee book gifting initiative to celebrate the National Year of Reading

Pan Macmillan has announced a new initiative to celebrate the National Year of Reading, giving every employee the chance to donate £100 worth of books to their community.

The initiative is driven by Pan Macmillan’s mission to get more books into the hands of those who may not have ready access to them. All employees are being provided with a £100 allowance to select titles from Pan Macmillan's catalogue, which will be distributed directly to organisations and groups of their choosing.

Employees can dedicate their allowance to a wide range of community pillars, including registered charities, community support groups, education providers, hospices, hospitals, and nursing homes. The books will be distributed by Macmillan Distribution directly to the organisations selected by Pan Macmillan employees.

During the National Year of Reading, we are celebrating how books are able to connect people, and provide instant joy and benefits.

This employee-led initiative builds on Pan Macmillan’s longstanding commitment to supporting literacy and community wellbeing through large-scale charitable donations. In summer 2025 Pan Macmillan contributed 15,500 books to The Multibank’s 'Kits for Kids' campaign. The initiative provided backpacks fi lled with essential items to families struggling with the rising costs of living, giving children the chance to escape into a new story and build a lifelong love of reading.

Alongside these targeted national campaigns, Pan Macmillan also continues its regular, ongoing work with Book Aid to support communities further afield.

Briony Grogan, Director of People & Culture at Pan Macmillan, said:

“Reading has the power to change lives, but we know that not everyone has equal access to books. During the National Year of Reading, we are celebrating how books are able to connect people, and provide instant joy and benefits. By giving our people the opportunity to personally choose where these books go, we hope to build connections with our local communities and share the joy of reading where it is needed this National Year of Reading.”
