Pan Macmillan remembers Jeffrey Archer (1940-2026)
Pan Managing Director Lucy Hale pays tribute to a master storyteller.

'We are deeply saddened by the news that the much-loved novelist Jeffrey Archer has passed away. Jeffrey was originally published in paperback by Pan Books in the 1970s and 1980s, then by Pan Macmillan for 18 years, between 2003 and 2021.
'We were very proud to republish his first novel, Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less, as part of Jeffrey’s 50 years in publishing celebration early this year. Jeffrey was a master storyteller who kept readers gripped with page-turning plots full of unexpected twists and turns. His stories delivered deeply satisfying endings, where good consistently triumphed over evil, and the villains received the downfall they deserved. His immense legacy of storytelling will live on and undoubtedly continue to find new readers.
'Over the course of publishing 15 new novels and short story collections with Pan Macmillan, he became known across the team for his incredible energy, sharp grasp of the numbers, playful grilling of the team and enthusiastic embrace of new technologies and his fantastic sense of humour. We will all miss him hugely.
'Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.'
Lucy Hale, Managing Director, Pan
