Blackwell's Bookshop on Broad Street in Oxford first opened its doors on New Year's Day, 1879. The shop was 12 feet by 4 feet, during the past 137 years, it has expanded to 4 floors of books including the world-famous Norrington Room, built underneath Trinity College in 1966 and featured in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest bespoke bookselling floor in the World. With a year-long eclectic events programme, a floor of rare and second-hand books and a proud history of knowledgeable and passionate booksellers, Blackwell's remains one of England's best independent bookshops.

Independent bookshop Bookends has been based in Carlisle for over 25 years and stocks a diverse range of books with a specialism in Cumbrian interest titles. They hold regular author events, storytimes and book groups and supply books for two local book festivals.
