After the Arcanum Guild was breached, and their illusion of safety was shattered, Scythe, along with the other apprentices, must master their newfound magic before the enemy can strike again.

For magic was once a birthright belonging to the Akashic, and they have come for revenge against the Arcana who stole it and the Guild that persecutes their kind. But as Scythe uncovers buried truths about the Akashic, and discovers rebels still hide within the city walls, the line between adversary and ally starts to blur. However, the Akashic rebellion has a greater purpose: to restore the balance of the world that was upended when magic was bled, and it requires one final weapon.

Yet Asher Kyrell, the Guild’s Archmage of fire, will do anything to keep it out of Akashic hands to protect her. They were tied by duty, then bound by blood, and now Scythe and Asher are shackled by the secrets that have spilled between them. Secrets that could be their ruin, or their way back to each other.

When those who seek her power leave Scythe with nowhere to run, Scythe must decide who she is willing to sacrifice, and who she is willing to become.
