Escape to the Fat Apples Cafe

Synopsis

Set on the beautiful Lizard Peninsula, Escape to the Fat Apples Cafe is a funny, heartwarming story of second chances, family ties, and the healing power of a community that takes you in when you need it most.

'I entered a derelict courtyard and looked round. There were no signs of life, no sounds, just the most beautiful feeling I have ever known. Empty barns circled the little serpentine house and the apple blossom, soft pink and ivory, floated in the air.'

When the family business went into administration, Jacci and Ed Jourdan's lives were completely upended. Broke and struggling to find work, they had to sell their home. As much as they tried to shield their teenage children, Phoebe and Hector, both were impacted by the stress. Then on holiday in Cornwall, outside the fishing village of Porthallow, Jacci saw an overgrown vineyard surrounding a house that was gently falling apart. Suddenly she knew what to do . . .

With no experience in hospitality and almost no money, Jacci set about turning the building into The Fat Apples Café. She will do the cooking, Hector and Phoebe will help in the kitchen and serve the customers. What could possibly go wrong? With the support of their neighbours, and despite the predations of Hector's feral chickens and a runaway pig, the cafe is soon busy. Too busy. The days are exhausting, tempers fray and at times culinary disaster looms. And yet the family never doubted that they had found their new home.

Charming and evocative, Escape to the Fat Apples Cafe will whisk you away to Cornwall's white sandy beaches and turquoise sea.
