In the days leading up to Edinburgh's biggest New Year's party, a young homeless girl named Karen dies in a suspected arson attack. Her friend Jaz is determined to avenge her death. Meanwhile, a string of similar fires in Glasgow brings forensic expert Dr Rhona MacLeod to the capital to investigate.
Facing off with the city's combative chief fire investigator, Severino MacRae, Rhona races to uncover the link between the attacks as the arsonist threatens to strike again at Hogmanay. With Jaz also hot on the trail of Karen's killer, it's a desperate race against time to stop the fires before more lives are lost.
