[an] outstanding debut... Parents and carers everywhere will relate to this tale of an ever-smiling but put-upon bear who eventually collapses under the weight of all the stuff she’s asked to carry, from her son’s forest treasures to a amingo’s piano. The message is simple: even grownups need a bit of looking after. But it’s the pictures that really shine, painted in the colours of bright boiled sweets and full of witty detail (including a tremendous aerial view of mum’s overloaded handbag). A tale as sweet as honey.
Children’s books celebrating mums often focus on all the great things mums do and how tireless and inventive they are, so it’s lovely to see a story about a hardworking mum that gets tired and sometimes needs a bit of help.
A great way to talk to children about the need to help out and learn to do even the smallest of jobs to make life easier for everyone around. Nicola’s bright, eye-catching illustrations and endearing animal characters make for an engaging read. One for harassed Mums everywhere
